King Alfred Secure by Design

Karis/ING has agreed to the request by Sussex Police for the provision of a Police Office within the King Alfred redevelopment. The proposals already meet the Police standards ‘Secured by Design’ and the developers believe that a Police Office will serve both the development itself and the wider local community.

Josh Arghiros, Karis Managing Director, said: “Karis is committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and security. Frank Gehry and the design team carefully considered the advice of Sussex Police throughout the evolution of the design and we are delighted to accommodate a Police Office within the development. The future management of the King Alfred is of the utmost importance and a Police Office on site will help us to ensure that the King Alfred and the surrounding area is a safe place that everyone can enjoy.”

The Police Office will be included within the retail/commercial space and has been designed to accommodate the requirements of Sussex Police.

The King Alfred Project is a 290 million pound mixed use development by Karis/ING Real Estate Developments UK Limited. The project is being designed by Frank Gehry and will provide a state of the art indoor sport and swimming centre, designed in collaboration with HOK Sport, and 752 homes, including 280 affordable homes.

The new sports centre includes community meetings rooms and a creche. In addition to the Police Office, further community facilities incorporated within the site will include:

* provision for a doctor’s surgery, which will enable a minimum of two doctors to practice from the site

* new, attractive public spaces with artwork by Antony Gormley

* public toilets

* public recycling facilities

The revised environmental impact statement due to be submitted by Karis within the next two weeks will include the location and specifications of these key community elements.
