Karis become Civic Trust Partner

Developer Karis has been rewarded for its excellence in development standards over the last 6 years with an invitation to join an elite group of major companies as a partner of The Civic Trust.

Britain’s leading urban environment charity, which boasts HRH The Prince of Wales as patron, extended the invitation to Brighton & Hove based Karis following the company’s delicate handling of some of the most significant projects in the Sussex region.

The company is a joint venture partner - with ING Real Estate Development UK - in the £200 million regeneration of the King Alfred site on Brighton & Hove seafront. The scheme will be legendary architect Frank Gehry’s first English project. In addition Karis has two developments at the planning application stage - Preston Road, a significant gateway scheme for the city & North Road, a project in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine bohemian quarter.

The move is seen as a realisation of Brighton & Hove’s growing importance on the British architectural map championed by individuals like Brighton-born Piers Gough, founding member of CZWG architects and Karis Managing Director Josh Arghiros.

Josh Arghiros commented: “We are highly delighted by the invitation from the Civic Trust and reiterate our commitment to only build and restore beautiful buildings and to maximise the potential of brownfield sites ensuring that schemes and their environments deliver true regeneration. This partnership enables us to share our knowledge with others and ultimately produce buildings that are a real asset to the community.”

Martin Bacon, Chief Executive of The Civic Trust said: “Karis has joined a number of major companies, such as British Land, Land Securities, Severn Trent, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, which are working with the Trust to improve community consultation and awareness.”

Karis works exclusively in Brighton & Hove and positions good design and architecture at the top of the agenda. In common with the Civic Trust the company seeks to build a better built environment and sustainable communities for future generations.
