Project History

The King Alfred Project began in 2002/3 when Brighton & Hove City Council selected Karis and ING Real Estate to take forward proposals for the rundown and partially derelict King Alfred site.

Karis commissioned leading experts in every field and a world class design team to maximise the full potential of the site and the wonderful seafront location:

- Frank Gehry
- HOK Sport Architecture
- CZWG Architects

Frank Gehry and the project team evolved the plans over several years, responding to local and national feedback to ensure the proposals met local requirements for the site.

Karis successfully gained planning permission for the development in March 2007.
